I love this time of year in Montana.

School is out, places like Virginia City and Mark's In & Out are open for business, the Farmer's Markets are bustling, and there are all kinds of outdoor activities to participate in.

Summer in Big Sky Country is a special time, whether you're planning a Treasure State road trip to explore Flathead or Glacier, or perhaps heading down to Yellowstone. There are a ton of things to do.

Of course, Montana isn't the happening place during this time of year. Several other states offer lots to do during the summer months. From lakes to amusement parks to all of the other touristy stuff we seem to love so much.

However, one of the things that makes Montana stand out so much is its beauty. While the western part of the state receives most of the love, the state as a whole is a magnificent destination to explore.

Is Montana the most beautiful state?

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I suppose that's true, but one source says Montana is one of the most beautiful places in the country; in fact, they have it ranked in the Top 5.

The social site Tree decided to rank the 5 Most Beautiful States in the country, and not only did Montana make the list, but we were pretty high up there. So, which states made the Top 5, and where did they all rank? Let's check it out below:

  • #5 Wyoming. It would make sense that Montana's southern neighbor would make the list. Not only is Wyoming home to a large portion of Yellowstone National Park, but it's also home to the Grand Teton Mountains. While Montana might be bigger and grander, Wyoming has lots to do and see, and is a whole lot cheaper to live in than Big Sky Country.
  • #4 Colorado. I like to think Montana is like Colorado, just with fewer people. There's no doubt that Colorado is a beautiful place. With lots of mountains and fancy towns like Aspen and Telluride, Colorado has long been a favorite for the rich and famous.
  • #3 California. I've long said that California would be the perfect place to live if it weren't for Californians. California has something for everyone. Beaches, mountains, forests, and everything in between. For years, folks dreamed of living in California, but now it seems like residents can't leave fast enough.
  • #2 Alaska. The country's biggest state is home to mountains, glaciers, frozen lakes, and polar bears. It's also home to some stunning scenery. Just how big is Alaska? It is more than twice the size of Texas, and you could fit 19 other U.S. states inside its boundaries.
  • #1 Montana. Well, look at that! Big Sky Country is ranked 1st when it comes to the most beautiful states in America. I'm not surprised. Much of Montana looks unreal when you see it in person. It's one of those places that "pictures don't do it justice". No, you have to come and see it with your own eyes. So, congrats to my fellow Montanans on being ranked #1.
