For whatever reason, we seem to love folklore and legends. Take Bigfoot for example, how many people actually believe Bigfoot is real? Or what about the Loch Ness Monster?

Here in Montana we have our own creepy legends. There is the Flathead Monster and there is also the Black Horse Lake Hitchhiker, the Little People of the Prior Mountains and more. However, up until recently I had never heard of whatever it is people claim live at the bottom of Lake McDonald.

Lake McDonald is located inside Glacier National Park and is stunning. Known for it's colorful rocks, the lake is 10 miles long and right around 500 feet deep.

Is there a creature in Lake McDonald?

The lake has long been a hot spot for tourism, however, there are certain legends that surround the lake and what might be living in the deep, dark waters. According to legend, the Kootenai People first noticed something large and dark lurking beneath the waters.

However, they weren't the only ones.

As folks continued to move to Montana in the late 1800s and early 1900s there were allegedly multiple reports that they too saw something lurking under the water. So, is it true? Is there some sort of creature living in the depths of Lake McDonald?

Chances are slim, but it does make for an interesting story and one that I would assume is rather popular around a campfire.
