The Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) is receiving reports from residents that mysterious packages of seeds have been showing up in their mailboxes. The seeds appear to have been shipped from China. It is unknown what type of seeds they are and who is sending them.

The MDA is urging Montana residents that have received theses packages to do the following:
  • Do NOT open the package
  • Do NOT plant the seeds
  • Do NOT throw them away
  • Contact the Seed Program at (406) 444-3950 or bballensky@mt.gov.
The department is awaiting official guidance from USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service on how to proceed with safe disposal of the mailed materials. They are continuing to investigate and will release updates as they learn more about these packages of seeds.
