We often discuss people moving to Montana from various states across the country, but what about those leaving Montana? Where are they moving to?

Montana is a big state with a relatively small population. (although many locals will tell you the state currently has no vacancy) So it's not about people moving here and crowding up the whole state; it just seems that people moving here are only moving to certain areas, mainly the western part of the state.

No offense to the eastern part of Montana, but it seems that people moving here are drawn by the views and outdoor adventure, and it just so happens that places like Bozeman, Big Sky, Kalispell, and Missoula offer a little more on this side of the state.

Of course, for many locals, the influx of all the new people and the high cost of living associated with that migration have made it darn near impossible to call Montana home, so folks are packing up and moving out, but where are they moving to?

What's so appealing about Washington? Granted, it's a beautiful state with lots to do and see, but according to some numbers, it's more expensive than Montana.

Take housing, for example. The average median cost of a home in Montana is about 550K according to Bankrate, while the average median cost of a home in Washington is almost a 100 thousand more.

More things to do and see? Well, there is that. Washington has bigger cities like Seattle and Spokane, so if activities are your thing, it would make sense. Other than that, I don't see the attraction. What about you?
