Ok, this is getting a little bananas—but we've got more closures to talk about, and this time it's one of the biggest names in the game: UPS. The economy in 2025 has already been a whirlwind, and now UPS has announced a major shake-up that'll roll out through the year.

During their Tuesday morning earnings call, UPS announced plans to cut 20,000 jobs and shut down 164 operations across the country. You can catch the full webcast HERE.

UPS CFO Brian Dykes delivered the news, explaining the changes are tied to a big shift in how they do business—especially with Amazon.

"We are reducing the amount of volume we deliver for Amazon by more than 50% by June 2026. Associated with this volume reduction, we are undertaking the largest network reconfiguration in our history. This effort has been combined with our Network of the Future initiative as both will help drive us to a more efficient network. The first phase of our network reconfiguration includes 164 operational closures, including 73 building closures by the end of June of this year," he said.

We reached out to UPS's public relations team to see if any Montana locations will be impacted. Their response:

"We don't plan to share additional details until we are confident that all impacted individuals have been informed." - UPS PR.

While that leaves a bit of a question mark for now, Dykes did clarify that the job cuts aren't limited to the buildings being closed—they'll be happening across the U.S. So, at this point, no area is totally in the clear.

Why is UPS making these cuts?

It all comes back to Amazon. UPS is scaling back its Amazon delivery volume, which they say will save the company $3.5 billion.
