Bozeman bike laws
So, what are the rules of the road?
Great question, let's look into it, shall we? According to the Montana Department of Transportation those on a bicycle, moped, or motorized scooters are required to follow the same laws as regular vehicles.
That means that when riding a bicycle you must do the following:
- Traffic Laws Cyclists must follow all traffic laws including stopping at stop signs, riding with the flow of traffic, and using hand signals.
- Sidewalk Riding Riding on a sidewalk is not permitted for anyone over the age of 15.
- Bike Lanes While cyclists may ride on the road, if a bike lane is available, it is recommended that they use it.
- Night Riding It is required by law that if you ride your bike in the dark, you must have a white headlight (visible from 500 feet) and red rear reflector or light.
In the end, its all about being safe and sharing the road. Vehicles need to be on the lookout, while cyclists need to make sure they are doing their part to obey the laws as well.
