Bozeman Homelessness Dropped 25 Percent Over Last Year

For those of us that have lived in Bozeman for the last few years, we remember all of the "make shift" RV camps around town. It was a bunch of vehicles, often run down that were living on side streets.

Well, there was a big uproar, people complained and after a few back and fourths, the city decided to do something about it, and all of the sudden, all of those RV camps were gone. Where did they go? I'm not sure, but they were no longer in Bozeman.

I bring this up because the good folks over at HRDC released some data that you might find interesting.

It seems that the homeless rate in Bozeman has decreased substantially. In fact, HRDC is saying that it's down 25 percent according to a report from KBZK. I mean, 25 percent is a pretty good chuck. The stats show that last year there were more than 500 homeless folks and this past year, that number is down into the 300's.

I recently had family visit from out of state and while they feel in love with Bozeman and Montana, they were blown away by the prices. Sound familiar?

Where did the Bozeman homeless go?

Oh, and those homeless folks? Many of them were and are working, but simply can't afford the "Bozeman prices" when it comes to housing. Although, several "locals" just assumed the worst. So, does the decrease mean that they've found housing, or is it that they've moved on to another town?

While rent in Bozeman is still the most expensive in the state, we have seen a decrease in price and an increase in available units, so maybe those folks found them a place to live.
