The Museum of the Rockies is always showcasing amazing new exhibits, and they’ve got something special lined up right now. It just so happens to be opening around the time we lost one of the greatest scientists last week.

The Museum of the Rockies is now home to Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall. The exhibit opened Friday, just days after the world lost the legendary primatologist and conservationist at the age of 91.

While the timing is bittersweet, the exhibit stands as a beautiful tribute to Goodall’s legacy. A woman who showed the world that curiosity and compassion can truly change the planet. Museum of the Rockies Director of Education and Public Programming, Kate Hodge, said it best: “ I think we all feel really, really lucky and fortunate to be able to celebrate the legacy, especially after something like that.”

The traveling exhibit, organized by the National Geographic Society in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute, invites visitors to step directly into Goodall’s world. You can walk through a life-sized replica of her research tent, watch a hologram of Jane herself, and even peer into the wilds of Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park through immersive projections that make you feel like you’re right there studying chimps.

It’s not just about looking back, it’s about looking forward. One interactive portion of the exhibit lets guests make their own conservation pledges. Pledges like cutting down plastic use to planting trees. As more visitors make their promises, the exhibit’s symbolic tree fills with new leaves, a living reminder of Goodall’s message: that small actions add up to global change.

The exhibit runs through January 18, so if you’ve ever dreamed of walking in the footsteps of a true trailblazer, now’s your chance, right here in Bozeman.
