15 Most Popular Items Stolen From Montana Target
We know times are tough but that is never a reason to participate in the '5 finger discount'. AKA, stealing.
Shoplifting is on the rise according to The New York Times. Although with most stores closed or having limited hours during COVID, it would really only make sense that numbers have been down the last couple of years.
NY Times reported shoplifting incidents were 16 percent higher in the first half of 2023 than the first half of 2019.
Lists have recently come out with the most shoplifted items from different department stores throughout the U.S., mostly to bring awareness to those departments and to let thieves know that those departments are being watched extra.

A recent list from Finance Buzz shows us the 15 Most Popular Stolen Items from Target came out, and to be perfectly honest, I was surprised by a few that made the list.
Toys: More specifically smaller and more expensive toys are the most lifted.
Razer Blades: Sometimes you will see razer blades behind glass, this is an indicator that the item is often lifted. Considering their size is small, blades were an easy target for shoplifters.
Electronics: Video games, chargers, and AirPods/headphones.
Meat: Groceries are not off the list of favorites for shoplifters. Meat especially, can get quite expensive. Target stores have seen an uptick when it comes to lost inventory in their meat department.
Printer Ink: Again, small packaging makes printer ink an easy score for thieves and the cost can get pretty expensive if you are doing a lot of printing.
Cosmetics: Eye makeup, nail polish, lashes, etc. all can fit inside a pocket. Cosmetics are increasing in price always which makes it even more tempting for shoplifters.
Baby Formula: Sadly baby formula is common in other department stores as well. There are state programs that will help with receiving formula if your family is struggling.
Accessories: Belts, purses, watches, etc. are all on this list of popular accessories stolen out of department stores.
Socks: In states where winter is persistent, socks are considered a necessity and some people do not have the cash to purchase socks that are warm enough to withstand below freezing temperatures.
Skin Care: The price of beauty is incredibly expensive. Serums and lotions containing age defying products such as retinol are often a hot item for shoplifters.
Medication: From aspirin to allergy medication, when you are using a product daily to get through your daily routine, it can get pretty expensive.
Clothing: Scarves, women's undergarments, leggings, all on the list for most popular items stolen from Target.
Alcohol: With addiction on the rise, missing alcohol will most likely always be on a list of most popular items stolen wherever it is sold.
Trading Cards: Reselling of trading cards from sports to Pokémon has increased over the years making these smaller packages easy to snag.
Batteries: We use batteries for so many things. Remotes and toys are among the most popular. Most items we used to use batteries for have gone to USB chargeable.
