Join the Fight Against Montana Hunger: Hunters Against Hunger
Did you know that hunters have the option to help feed Montana?
In a partnership between the Montana Food Bank Network and the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, hunters that legally harvest big game can donate all or just a portion of their harvest.
The Montana Food Bank Network started a program called Hunters Against Hunger in 2014. The program has been very successful, with almost 400,000 pounds of meat being donated during that time.
Currently, the meat has been distributed to 29 food banks across Montana, and they plan to reach more than 35 food pantries in 2025.
"In Montana right now, 1 in 9 people are facing food insecurity, including 1 in 6 children. Pantries throughout the state that's the most expensive item to provide oftentimes is protein so fresh nutritious game meat is a pretty cool thing to provide,"-- Montana Food Bank Network Programs Coordinator Cyrus Turbank
How much does it cost hunters?
Having the meat processed for donation is FREE. Montana Hunters Against Hunger provides a list of participating processors across the state so that hunters can drop off their harvest.
You can find the complete list of authorized processors HERE.
If you are a hunter and don't want to donate your harvested meat, you still have an option to give back. When hunters apply for a deer, antelope, elk, moose, or buffalo license, they may donate $1 or more to complete the purchase. All contributions help pay for the program's processing and distribution of meat across Montana.
