The Big Sky Fire Department has sent a team of firefighters to California to help in fighting some of the worst fires in the state's history.

According to the Big Sky Fire Department's Facebook page, Captain Mitch Hamel and Firefighters John Foster, Mike Ketschek, Dave Parker and Seth Nowlin left Big Sky this past weekend for California. They will join nearly 70 other firefighters from around the state of Montana in helping fight California fires that have already killed 43 people.

The Big Sky Firefighters are expected to be in California for nearly three weeks.

In addition to the Big Sky Fire Department, crews from Central Valley Fire, Park County Rural Fire, and Livingston Fire are also headed to California to help in relief efforts.
