Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
Sometimes a certain song, smell, or TV show can take us back to a time where things weren't as complicated. I remember growing up when everyone went downtown to shop. There were grocery stores, retails stores, shoe stores, dinners, bakeries, everything you would need. By the time I was a young teen, downtown was kind of a ghost town.

Sadly, there are a lot of towns across America like that. Boarded up windows, buildings that are empty and collecting dust. Places that at one time where thriving, and now are places that are nothing more than a memory for those old enough to remember.
One of the beautiful things about living in Montana, is that you can find that Americana feel in several small towns. Places like Livingston, Hamilton, Whitefish, Ennis, and many more have somehow managed to stay alive, while other small towns across this country have given up the ghost.

However, according to once source, if you are looking for the town that will take you back a half a century or so, you might want to check out Red Lodge here in Montana.
The folks over at Cheapism came out with a list of 12 Towns That Feel Like America Did 50 Years Ago and it just so happens that Red Lodge made the list. Red Lodge is certainly a popular tourists spot for Montanans and those from out of state. Either way, it's certainly a fantastic place to spend a day or two checking out the different retail stores as well as the places to grab a bite to eat.
