What Were You Doing on This Day in 1980?
If you're around the age of 50 you probably remember what you were doing on this date in 1980. And if you're younger, you probably still are aware of the historic event that happened on February 22, of 1980.
Today is the 38th anniversary of the 'Miracle on Ice!" In one of the biggest upsets in any sport of all time, the United States men's hockey team defeated the Russian hockey team 4-3 in the medal round of the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
Talk about a rush of patriotism. People who didn't even usually watch hockey were glued to their square color tv sets to watch the historic game. I was a sophomore in high school, sitting in the stands watching our varsity basketball team play, when they made the announcement that the U.S. hockey team had won! The gymnasium erupted.
If you would like to go back in time for a moment, be sure to watch the video below of Al Micheals famous call at the end of the game, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!"
