Press Release: Montana School Weapon Incident
A press release just came out regarding an incident at CJMS this morning. (5/3/23).
We received the following:
This morning, a CJMS student brought a knife to the playground before school. Several students reported being threatened. The student was relocated to the main office under the supervision of school staff. Law enforcement and school staff immediately responded. The student was disarmed by school resource officers and is now in custody of law enforcement.
As a precaution, for a brief period of time, students were held in their classroom so there was no hallway traffic. No students were injured. The building is safe.
Many students observed the incident on the playground which will certainly trigger a variety of reactions. Students who request counseling support are being supported by CJMS counselors. If students are contacting parents to be picked up, we are releasing them out of the main office. Please feel free to contact CJMS counselors Taylor Gooch or Brian Mitchell if you would like additional support for your child.
This is an active police investigation and we will provide additional information as it becomes available. Again, all students are safe and the situation has been contained. Law enforcement cannot disclose the identity of the suspect or any other involved individuals at this time. The law enforcement point of contact for this incident is Detective Captain Dana McNeil, 406-582-2020.
