What do you need to know before moving to Montana?
The first and probably most important thing you need to know is that parts of the state are very expensive. Certain towns are more desirable and with that desirability comes a price. So, for those of you who want quick access to all the fun outdoor activities AND mountain views, you're going to pay more.
Second, not everyone here is nice or welcoming.
For the most part, Montanans are very friendly people, however, there is a loud group of folks (mostly internet trolls) who aren't fond of newbies and would much rather you stay where you are. As mentioned, they kind of live online, but don't be surprised if you come across one or two rude Montanans who are vocal about you and you moving here.
Finally, between the wildlife and winter, there are a few things here that will kill you.
Part of the romance of Montana is this wild place where you can still see Bears and Moose. Where you can hike and come across tracks of things like Elk and Mountain Lions. While that's true, keep in mind, that those beautiful creatures can also kill you.
So can the elements.
If you aren't used to living in winter for 6 months out of the year, Montana might not be for you. Here we get snow and lots of it. Sure, it makes for great skiing and snowmobiling, but it also makes for dangerous roads.
However, if your heart is still set on moving here, below are some towns you might want to avoid.
