Montanans Seek New States To Call Home: Where Are They Moving?
We talk a lot about all of the people moving to Montana. However, here's something to think about, where are Montanans moving?
Due to the high cost of living, many Montanans are leaving Big Sky Country simply because they can't afford it. What is interesting though is that according to data, it seems that the majority of them leaving, aren't going very far.

Most of the folks who are saying so long to the Treasure State are staying in the region, with Washington leading the way as the state the majority of Montanans are relocating to. Much like Montana, Washington has plenty of outdoor adventure, mountains, prairies, agriculture, and so on. Unlike Montana, it also has a major city, with millions of people calling it home, which could mean more opportunity.
Other popular destinations include Idaho, Oregon, and North Dakota.
What states are Montanans moving to?
However, for those Montanans who have decided to spread their wings a little further, there are a few states that seem more appealing to residents than others. One of the top states Montanans are moving to is Texas.
We've all heard the marketing slogan, "Texas, a whole other country." There is some truth to that, Texans, like Montanans take great pride in their heritage. It's a badge of honor to be a Texan, in fact, my wife (who was raised in Texas) doesn't remember schools teaching American History, but they did teach Texas History.
Texas isn't the only state Montanans are moving to though, there are two more outside the region, and these may surprise you.
Go East?
According to data from Google, the Carolina's have become a popular spot to call home for Montanans looking for a change. Both North and South Carolina are places that are attracting Montanans. I've been to both, and they are lovely, but better than Montana? I don't think so.
