Here we are, in the middle of winter in Montana and there isn't a lot to show for it.

I understand that lots of folks are transplants, but what about those who've been here their whole lives? Have they ever seen a winter like this one? The answer to that question is...no.

What do you do when you can't get a straight answer from the weather professionals? Well, you do what any like minded person does. You head over to the Old Farmer Almanac. Trusted for generations, what does that OFA say about Montana and our current winter situation?

What kind of winter should Montana expect?

Well, according to the website, we can expect a mild and dry winter. See, spot on! I mean, it's been mild, probably too mild, and it's been dry. While those "professionals" have an accuracy rate of like 30 percent, the Old Farmer's Almanac is still delivering the goods.

Oh, and if you're worried that we don't have enough precipitation, I will tell you that the OFA is advising us not to put away the show shovel too soon, which means that we could see some significant snow fall towards the end of the season.

When will we see the most snow in Montana?

According to the site, the most snow will come at the end of February and in the middle and end of March. So, don't hit the panic button just yet, but, you might want to keep your finger hoovering above it.
