I know that this winter isn't the norm for Montana. We've had some crazy warm temperatures, in fact, according to some sources, this has been the warmest winter in state history. You know it's a strange winter when the South has had more snow than we have.

Of course, a normal Montana winter will bring freezing temperatures along with feet of snow, which is one of the reasons that Montana is a popular destination for winter activities.
I'm no stranger to a cold winter. I spend a couple of winters in Alberta, a few in North Dakota, and several here in Montana. In fact, I remember those North Dakota winters being brutal with all of the wind and the freezing temperatures. I'm talking about the type of cold that if you remove your gloves for just a few seconds, you can feel your fingertips start to freeze.
So, if you were to ask me what state is the coldest, I would either say Alaska or North Dakota and according to one source, I would be wrong.

Which state is the coldest in America?
Map Quester has put together a list of the coldest states in the country and used things like wind speed, wind chill, and freezing temps to determine how each cold state falls in line. As I mentioned above, I figured either Alaska or North Dakota would take the top spot, however, I was way off.
