We all know that folks love to rail on Bozeman.

They talk about how the once cow town has become some sort of Jackson Hole "wannabe" with all kinds of fancy folks visiting from nearby Big Sky and the Yellowstone Club. Sure, there is some truth to that, I mean, if you take a walk down Mainstreet Bozeman, you can see that a large portion of those stores aren't meant for the "Common Montanan".

I was skimming through TikTok and came across a post about the personality of Montana towns in just 3 words and when it came to Montana, they used the following:

  • Ambitious
  • Outdoorsy
  • Expensive

I'm not sure I would agree with ambitious, but I can see the other two making the list. For those who want to spend their time outdoors, Bozeman has plenty of places to purchase gear. Oh, and the price range is pretty vast. You can go from affordable all the way to outrageous.

My wife is way healthier than me, so when we go to some of the "specialty" stores here in town, I'm often taken back by some of the outdoor apparel I see. I consider myself somewhat hip, so if I've never heard of the brand, I'm guessing it's expensive.

And that brings us to the next one, expensive. Bozeman is certainly that and I'm not sure why.

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful town and I love living here, but I'm not sure what makes it 700 dollars more a month expensive for rent than Missoula. I get it, MSU is better than UM, but is that worth 700 bucks a month? I don't think so.
