Where Does Montana Rank When It Comes To Being Patriotic?
I’d argue Montana is about as American as it gets. From the stars and stripes flying on porches and businesses/organizations supporting veterans —our patriotism runs deep.
With the Fourth of July right around the corner, we got curious—what states are actually the most patriotic in the country? Sure, we all have pride in our home states, but when it comes to ranking things like love of country, service, and civic engagement, it’s not just about who waves the biggest flag or lights off the most fireworks. It’d be a tough call to make without some solid data to back it up.
Luckily, someone actually crunched the numbers, and the results might surprise you. WalletHub just published a story to break it down for us, and what was not surprising is Montana made the top 5.
Before we get into the final results, how did they calculate such a biased topic?
"WalletHub compared the states across 13 key indicators of patriotism. Our data set ranges from the state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita. " - WalletHub

Why Montana Ranks 2nd In Patriotism
Montanans don’t just talk the talk—we show up. Our voter turnout sits at a solid 69.2%, and back in 2020, we actually had the highest primary election turnout in the entire country. That’s pretty dang impressive.
We’re also big on giving back. Montana ranks second in the number of AmeriCorps volunteers, and over 37% of folks here lend their time to some kind of organization. Helping each other out is just how we’re wired.

And let’s not forget our veterans—there are 102 vets for every 1,000 civilians, making us fourth in the nation. Safe to say, Montana shows up for America in a big way.
