Did Bobby Hauck Leave Montana High And Dry?
On February 4th of this year, Coach Bobby Hauck held a press conference in Missoula and announced he was retiring from football.
His reason? He was tired of dealing with not only the players, but their agents. I mean, it makes sense. College Football isn't the same as it used to be and even some of the greats of stepped away because of what the Transfer Portal and NIL can do. Nick Sabin anyone?

So it made perfect sense that at the age of 61, Coach Hauck wanted to step away from the game and enjoy life. Except, he's not.
What are Bobby Hauck's plans after retiring from Montana?
In what might be one of the shortest retirements on record, the former Griz Head Coach has been announced as the new Defensive Coordinator at the University of Illinois. Yep, Bobby was retired for 5 days.
I can't blame a guy for wanting to make a living, and I'm guessing he is going to get a pretty big raise. (I've heard rumors of more than double of what he made at Montana) but the question I have is, did he lie to Montana football fans? I mean, did he know he was going to take this job? Was he in talks? How tired could he have really been if only 5 days after saying goodbye, he was wearing another teams colors?
How do Montana fans feel about Bobby Hauck?
The question is, are the University of Montana Football fans ok with this? Or are they pissed off? If it was me, I think I might be a little upset. I would certainly feel lied to.
As a Bobcat fan, I'm aware that the chances of our Head Coach leaving for a bigger program are substantial. However, I would like to think that if that day does come, that Brent Vigen will be upfront and honest about it. He wouldn't say he is retiring only to pop up somewhere else in less than a week.

Once again, maybe that wasn't the plan. Maybe Coach Hauck was going to retire, and Illinois came to him with an offer he couldn't refuse. Even if that's the truth, it certainly looks a little suspect.
