We often chat about how living in Montana is expensive, especially towns like Bozeman and Missoula.

Not only is the housing off the charts, but when you throw in all of the other costs, it makes you wonder how some Montanans make ends meet. Or, how anyone moving here that isn't a gazillionare can make it work.

The folks over at Compare The Market have put together a list of the least-affordable places in the United States and it just so happens that Montana makes the list, more than once.

First, the released a list of the most expensive places in Montana to call home, and it might not come as a shock that all of the places with a population of over 30 thousand made the list. From that, we can gather if you want to call Montana home, chances are you will get a better deal in a smaller town.

Next, they released a list of the the most expensive places in Montana to call home compared to the cities in the United States. Montana had 3 in the Top 30.

Which 3 Montana cities are the most expensive?

First up, and this certainly won't come as a shocker, is Bozeman. Bozeman comes in as the 14th most expensive place to call home in the United States.

So, who comes in 2nd? Missoula? Billings? Helena? Actually, the 2nd most expensive city to live in ranks just behind Bozeman on the list. Coming in 15th place is the city of Kalispell.

Finally, Missoula is ranked 30th on the list.

What makes these cities so expensive? Housing. It all comes down to the cost of buying a home. Now, it should be noted that some of those inflated prices have come down, but the costs are still higher than the average Montanan can afford to pay.
