Are the Dixie Chicks working on new music? Recent posts to Natalie Maines' Instagram are hinting that something is happening.

Late Sunday night (June 24), Maines shared on Instagram a photo taken from behind the control board of a recording studio. There's a glass of wine ... oh, and is that a notebook with what could be song lyrics?! Unfortunately, Maines didn't offer any hints about what's happening in the photo's caption: All she wrote was "?"

However, a few more photos on Maines' Instagram page add fuel to the fire, so to speak: A couple hours after posting that control board photo, she shared a picture of three sets of feet. Nobody's tagged in the photo, but fans commenting on the pic are certainly hoping those sneakers belong to Maines and her Dixie Chicks bandmates, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire.

Earlier in June, Maines posted photos on Instagram of herself holding Strayer's banjo and playing Maguire's fiddle. She also shared in the caption of another picture that she was songwriting. Maines' Twitter account offers no additional clues, and Strayer and Maguire's social media feeds are quiet as well.

The Dixie Chicks haven't released a new album since Taking the Long Way in 2006; their debut album, Wide Open Spaces, turns 20 this year. It's been 15 years since their career largely came to a halt after Maines spoke out against then-President George W. Bush and the U.S.' impending invasion of Iraq during a show in London, England.

The Dixie Chicks most recently toured Canada and Europe in 2013 and 2014, and in the U.S. in 2016; out of those shows, they created a live project, DCX MMXVI Live, released in late 2017.
