Montana Camping Must-Have: Next-Level S’mores Recipes
Camping season is officially here in Montana. The snow's melted off, and I’ve already seen folks setting up camp in Paradise Valley and along the Madison River. People are more than ready to shake off the winter blues and dive into everything this state has to offer.
For many of us, camping is a summer tradition—and with that comes the campfire. And you know what that means: s’mores. That gooey, melty combo of chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker goodness. It’s basically a camping requirement. If you’re not having s’mores, are you even camping?
Most of us are familiar with the classic lineup: graham cracker, chocolate, toasted marshmallow, topped with another cracker. But what if you switched things up a bit?
Here are a few fun twists on the traditional s’more to try this summer.
Switch Out the Basics
One of the easiest ways to level up your s’mores game is by swapping out the classic ingredients. Here are some fun upgrades to try:
- Trade graham crackers for thin cookies—think chocolate chip, shortbread, or even stroopwafels.
- Swap out the chocolate bar for a scoop of Nutella or cookie butter.
- Keep the usual lineup, but add a drizzle of caramel or peanut butter.
- Try a Reese’s Cup instead of a plain chocolate bar—trust me, it’s a game-changer.
More Than Just a Marshmallow
Let’s be real—the marshmallow is the star of the show. Some people like theirs barely golden, others want it practically on fire. No judgment here. No matter your toasting style, here are a few ways to spice things up:
- For the grown-ups: give your toasted marshmallow a quick dip in Baileys for a boozy twist.
- Not a marshmallow fan? Try swapping it for cookie dough or a roasted banana slice.
- Try the world of flavored marshmallows—vanilla, strawberry, even toasted coconut.
