Over the weekend the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots being fired north of West Yellowstone. More than 40 law enforcement personnel responded and were searching for the suspect, who is now in custody.

Belgrade resident, Brian J. Marks, was arrested Monday, August 10th. He is now in the Gallatin County Detention Center charged with three counts of Felony Assault with a Weapon and Robbery. Marks, age 47, appeared Tuesday morning virtually with the Justice Court.

Sheriff Brian Gootkin extended thanks to the following agencies that responded and aided in searching for the suspect:

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report Saturday of shots being fired in the Whiskey Bay area north of West Yellowstone. They are searching for a white male in his late 30's or early 40's that was last seen driving a silver Toyota pickup with a topper and Texas plates.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see a vehicle matching this description, call 911 immediately and do NOT attempt to make contact.
The victims stated the man pointed a handgun at them and then shot multiple rounds into the ground according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.
There are over 40 law enforcement personnel from eight agencies searching for this man. Several locals saw numerous officers hurry into the canyon Saturday afternoon on their way to respond.
