We start to study the states when we are only in elementary school and always spend extra time on the beautiful state we call home. But with all the years of living in Montana, and learning about Big Sky country only 30% of Montanans know the words on the seal of Montana. That means 7 out of 10 people don't know the answer.

The seal was adopted in 1865, when Montana was just a territory. It was decided to use the same seal when Montana became a state. The outer ring of the seal reads "The Great Seal of the State of Montana" with the banner on the bottom of the seal stating "Oro y Plata" translated from Spanish as "Gold and Silver."
