WOW! This Montana Must-See Has Totally Changed In A Year.
If live in Montana or are just visiting, there is a good chance you like to hike or do outdoor things. Kind of a highlight for the state. One of the places many people visit is Hyalite Reservoir. It's on many tourists' lists of "things to see." I'm not gonna lie, it is really pretty.
Along with the reservoir, there is also the easy hike to the Palisade Falls. This is definitely one of my favorites: you don't have cell service (well I don't) and it is a peaceful way to clear your head.
The hike is 0.7 miles to get to the waterfall, and when you get to the top, it's really stunning. The smell of nature, the sound of the water, and the fact that no one can ruin it with a text or call make it even better.
Last year in July I went to Hyalite, and the water seemed really low. Here is a picture of it ONE year ago, almost to the day. I am standing in the parking lot area. You can see all the rocks, and the little body sitting next to the water.
Here is what it looks like THIS year (just a couple of weeks ago). You can see how crazy the difference is!
I am standing in the same spot I was for the first picture from a year ago. You can see there are NO rocks, NO "beach" area, and the water level is much higher. You basically can park and walk into the water, the changes are insane.
If you haven't made it up to check out Hyalite, you definitely need to. The drive is so pretty, with streams rolling and people enjoying camping and wildlife. It's absolutely one of my favorite spots.
