March is Women’s History Month. It is a time to recognize the women who shaped our communities, industries, and the state we call home. Montana has never been short on strong, trailblazing women, and this month there are a few local events that highlight exactly that.

First up, the Museum of the Rockies is hosting a special screening of The Story of Us: The Women Who Shaped Montana – Episode III. The documentary dives into the lives of Ella Knowles Haskell, Montana’s first female attorney, rodeo standout Fannie Sperry Steele, and Nancy Cooper Russell, who helped build the legacy of artist Charlie Russell. The film will be followed by a live panel discussion. It is free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come basis.
On March 11 from noon to 1 p.m., students at Montana State University will gather in SUB Room 168 to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event will have students from around the world sharing how the day is recognized in their cultures and what their experiences have been like studying at MSU.
Later in the month, the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture will host a screening of the documentary Jonnie on March 23 at 7 p.m. The film tells the story of a determined Montana woman who carved her own path in professional bull riding.

The Old Saloon Lineup For 2026

Nothing says Montana in the summer like a trip to Emigrant and a show at The Old Saloon. Since 1902, folks have been stopping at The Old Saloon. Today it's for a great meal, a cold drink, and a great show.
