It was supposed to be the last weekend before nearly all entrances and roads in Yellowstone would close Monday morning at 8am while the park prepares for the winter season and snowmobile and snowcoach travel, which begins December 15th.

It may already be too late, as winter storms are already causing problems. Right now the one road that is still open is the North Entrance at Gardiner through Mammoth Hot Springs, Cooke City, and Silver Gate to the Northeast Entrance. This road stays open all year long, weather-permitting.

Weather forecasts call for a total snow accumulation of up to two feet in some areas through Sunday morning. Please check road status at go.nps.gov/YellRoads or (307) 344-2117 before traveling to the park.
