What Popular Apps Are Sharing Montanans Personal Information?
For those of you who are a certain age, you more than likely remember a time before smartphones. That magical time where if we wanted to know the answer to something, find someone to date, or order food, we had to put in some effort.
Well, those days are long gone.
There isn't much our phones can't do these days. From instant answers to almost any question, access to our bank accounts, directions to our destination, or watching our favorite shows, our phones have become a part of us.
Of course that leads me to my next point, just how much access are Montanans giving to our phones and the apps we are downloading to them? According to some new research, that depends on the apps we are using.
I'm sure the majority of Montanans are familiar with the TikTok situation here in The Treasure State. The popular app has become a target by our state government as Montana was the first in the nation to "ban" the app, and while that ban is currently in the court systems, it does bring up an interesting point.
Which apps are notorious for sharing your personal information?
SQL Server Consulting Services recently put out data they gathered when they decided to see which apps were the biggest violators of sharing your info with third parties. Some might not be that big of a surprise, while others just might be. Let's take a look.
When it comes to sharing the most personal information the biggest culprit is the popular app Picsart AI Photo Editor. SQL said the following about the app:
"with over a billion downloads, was found to share locations, personal information (names and email addresses), photos and videos, audio, files and documents, app activity, and app information with third parties."
Other apps that share lots of personal information with third parties according to the study include the following:
