The best way to make new friends in Montana is to attend fun events that aren't booze-centric. Bars are fine, but not always the best for real conversation and sober interactions.

Making new friends can be hard at any age. We have found the trick to be showing up to an event or group meeting for something you like to do. Cars, plants, books, singing, learning, etc. What's cool about the Bozeman area is that you really do have options for just about any interest.

All you have to do is show up. There have been several events put on by area groups that I just took a leap of faith with, and it turned out great every single time. Even if it wasn't life changing, not once have I ever regretted venturing out to meet new people.

Checking upcoming Facebook events at any time is a good idea. In this case, we've done the work for you and put together a list of upcoming Bozeman area events that seem like perfect candidates for 'new friend potential'. Hey, we all learned as kids that all it takes to make a new friend is a 'hello' and a common interest. Still holds true today!

Adopt-a-houseplant Plant Swap at the Belgrade Community Library: Thursday, September 22nd, 2022. Happening 5:30pm to 6:30pm. This is a quickie event, and perfect if you don't have a lot of time. The point is to come home with a new houseplant. The Library folks are propagating young plants and those with lots of houseplants can bring some to swap. Tea will be served. Super safe, sober, calm place to introduce yourself to other plant lovers.

Michelle's Pick: JUST GO GOLFING BY YOURSELF! You'll get matched up with at least one other person but perhaps a twosome or a group of three. I have met more people by showing up at the golf course (Bridger Creek in my fave). Golfing with friends is great but you don't need a partner or a reservation when you show up as a single. Not once have I been paired up with a jerk. Sometimes my new partner is from out of town, sometimes they're a longtime resident. Either way, it's an excellent way to meet people who are in a good mood :-)

Rescued & Reclaimed Harvest Season Vintage Market at MetraPark in BILLINGS: (Friday and Saturday) October 7th and 8th, 2022. THIS EVENT IS IN BILLINGS. If you're into antiques and repurposing items or furniture, this is for you.

Annual zombie walk at Lewis & Clark City Park Belgrade: Friday, October 18th, 2022. Happening 4pm to 8pm. If you're into Halloween stuff and you want to meet other fun loving people, get a little weird at the zombie walk. Everyone is a little awkward when they're in full face makeup, right?

Bozeman Fall MADE fair at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse: (Friday and Saturday) October 14th and 15th, 2022. This is a big event, but a great opportunity to have quick conversations with talented local and regional artists, makers and craftspeople. It's free to attend on Saturday, but you can pay to get in on Friday or extra early on Saturday. (Details at the link.) If handmade products are your thing, come chat with some of the most talented makers in the state.
