15 Of The Best Sandwiches In Southwest Montana
Montanans know about good food. We always have. Sure, the bar has been raised quite a bit in recent years but great meats, cheeses, veggies, and bread products have always been locally available - making for some incredibly good sandwiches.
Here, we're going to chat about some of the most popular and favorite sandwiches in the greater Bozeman area, as recommended by locals. NOTE: I haven't tried all of these suggestions personally, but I've had a bunch of them - and they're damn good.
Big Sky, Bozeman, Belgrade, Ennis, West Yellowstone, Three Forks, Manhattan, Gardiner, Livingston, and every little town in between were fair game.
Breakfast sandwiches were allowed and we didn't nitpick about the definition of a "sandwich". It was sort of open-ended...or better yet, open-faced. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
Fink's Delicatessen in Bozeman (600 North Wallace Avenue #4, Bozeman, MT) Several votes went to this NE Bozeman Deli, currently with breakfast and lunch grab & go options, online ordering, or delivery. The two most popular sandwiches: ROAST BEEF with Swiss, Spinach, Peperonata & Roasted Garlic Aioli, on Ciabatta. CUBANO with Ham, Mojo Pulled Pork, Swiss, Sliced Dill Pickles & Yellow Mustard on a Baguette. (Personally, I've really liked every sandwich I've tried from Fink's. Solid choice.)
Bourbon in Bozeman (515 West Aspen, Bozeman, MT) Classic BBQ Brisket Sandwich with pickles, onion, house bb sauce, and slaw. However, one of their specials (pictured below) looks amazing and was also suggested by a longtime local. Sandwich Special: Ruebano with Corned beef, Turkey, Swiss, Spicy beer mustard, Bacon braised cabbage, Sauerkraut and Pickles.
Hungry Moose Market & Deli in Big Sky (209 Aspen Leaf Drive, Big Sky, MT) They also have a location up at Big Sky Resort, FYI, but I prefer the Town Center location down in the meadow. CLASSIC (OR VEGGIE) BREAKFAST BISCUIT with eggs, sausage, (sub ham or bacon) cheddar cheese on a buttermilk biscuit, plain bagel or works bagel. CRANBERRY WALNUT CHICKEN WRAP with house-made walnut chicken salad, romaine lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette on a flour or whole wheat tortilla.

Chalet Market of Montana (6410 Jackrabbit Lane, Belgrade, MT) Around since 1977, Chalet Market is a small but mighty Montana specialty store that has a deli counter. "Ham and Swiss heated up at the chalet market simple and been my favorite for 30 years or more!"
Cateye Cafe in Bozeman (23 North Tracy Avenue, Bozeman, MT) "Honey fried chicken sandwich at Cateye Cafe." Honey fried chicken with bacon, smoked cheddar, and peppercorn aioli, served on a Kaiser Roll.
The Pickle Barrel in Bozeman (809 West College Street, Bozeman, MT) A Bozeman institution and probably my favorite business in this entire valley. Just a personal opinion, but LOTS of people have a 'Pickle Barrel problem'. Ken's Special, Classic Cheesesteak, a Dragon Slayer, or my favorite - the Mushroon Steak, you will NOT walk away hungry from the Pickle Barrel. If you catch them during delivery hours, they're insanely fast. They're not fancy. They're just huge and incredibly tasty.

MacKenzie River Pizza Co. (232 East Main Street, downtown Bozeman) The Willow Creek Sandwich with smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, spinach, tomatoes, light mayo & melted mozzarella. Served with tortilla chips.
Matt's Old Fashioned Butcher Shop & Deli in Livingston (105 Rogers Lane, Livingston, MT) Yes, a proper (well-loved) butcher shop, you can also get deli sandwiches and pizza's from Matt's. "Any sandwich from Matt's in Livingston" was a response we got more than once!
Gil's Goods in Livingston (207 West Park Street, Livingston, MT) It's a Livingston institution and if you want non-fussy good eats, go here. It's on the Murray Block. Patty Melt with Gil's burger, grilled white onions, sautéed mushrooms, swiss cheese, and horseradish aioli on Wheat Montana marbled rye bread. Yum. Burgers and pizza too. Shown below is their Pan Bagnat: Tuna Panzanella salad on one of our house made baguette.
The Buffalo Bar in West Yellowstone (335 US-20, West Yellowstone, MT) Best described as a cool bar, nothing foo-foo, but pretty darned good food. "Probably the best place to eat in town. The Old Faithful Pot Roast Sandwich was probably one of the best I've had."
