Montana is no stranger when it comes to great breakfast spots.

All through Big Sky Country you will find amazing places to have what many refer to as the most important meal of the day. Of course, we all have our favorites and over the years I've had some of the best breakfast foods right here in the Treasure State.

Everything from a pulled pork omelet to a Monte Cristo to a breakfast bowl to my favorite, biscuits and gravy.

But what is Montana's signature breakfast item? The one thing that if you were to visit Montana you would have to have? Huckleberry jam? Something with Flathead cherries? While both are delicious, neither one tops the list for signature breakfast item, at least according to one source.

The folks over at Cheapism decided to take a look at all 50 states and pick a signature breakfast item from each state. Take Idaho for example, they went with hash browns, makes sense right, since it's the potato state. In Wyoming, the signature item was chicken fried steak and eggs. In the Dakota's, the signature items were sour cream pancakes, and chislic and eggs.

So, how about Montana?

According to the site, our signature breakfast item is non other than bison sausage. Well, it sounds delicious, I'm just not sure I've ever had it. In fact, I'm not sure I've seen it on the menu. I mean, it's Montana, we have plenty of places that serve bison burgers and steaks, but bison sausage?
