You know you've had a great vacation when it feels like you've been away forever. That's how the last 10 days have felt. Among the places we visited were Sheridan, Wyoming, where we walked along the actual ruts of the Bozeman Trail. Also, near Sheridan is the Fetterman Battlefield, where we paid our respects to the command of Captain William J. Fetterman. Many people are familiar with the Battle of the Little Bighorn, but not so much with the Fetterman Battle, where 80 men (plus Fetterman) lost their lives to some 1500 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapho warriors in 1866. It was the largest loss of soldiers for the U.S. Army on the Great Plains before Custer's famous battle in 1876 along the Little Bighorn.

Our vacation travels also took us to Quake Lake outside of Yellowstone National Park. The lake was created in 1959 by a 7.5 earthquake that took with it an entire mountainside. Other side trips included dipping our toes in a stretch of the Madison River near Ennis, Montana, we had never visited before, and a hike in Big Sky to Ousel Falls.

Here's some pictures we took on our journey.
