Growing up in my hometown, there was a little cafe downtown that we used to go to with my Great Grandpa. To be honest, I can't remember if the food was all that great, but I do remember how the cafe looked, and all of the good times that we had there.

Of course, both my Great Grandpa and that little cafe are long gone, but those memories, are still a part of me.

It got me thinking about all of the wonderful businesses here in Montana that were such a big part of people's lives but are no longer around.  Maybe like me, it was something that was part of your childhood, or maybe it was a place you hung out as a teenager, or just your favorite bar or restaurant.

Whatever the case, we wanted to know which businesses Montanans missed the most. Places that are no longer around but hold a special place in our hearts, so we asked you to share, and you did. While there were several answers, these former Montana businesses are the ones that received the most mentions.

Frontier Pies

So many Montanans mentioned Frontier Pies which used to be located in Bozeman.  In fact, someone mentioned not only did Frontier Pies have some of the best pies in Montana, but they also had sour cream raisin pie, which apparently is hard to find anywhere else.

Skate Palace

Skate Palace was another Bozeman business Montanans would love to see come back. For those of us that are a certain age, we totally remember hanging out at the local skating rink on Friday and/or Saturday nights.  It was the place to go to spend time with your friends, hear the latest and greatest in music, plus play arcade games while you worked up the courage to ask that special person you were crushing on for a couple of skates.

Geyser Park

Geyser Park in Billings was a great place to take the family for fun.  Mini-Golf, Go-Carts, Laser Tag, and a whole lot more made Geyser Park a fantastic choice for both locals and tourists. Not to mention there was a snack bar that had all of those fun foods that kids of all ages love.

Santa Fe Red's

Santa Fe Red's had a long history in Bozeman when they decided to call it quits after 30 years.  The restaurant, which closed in 2021 was a popular place for many Bozemanites and Montanans to hang out, have a meal, a drink or two, and socialize with friends.

4B's

While there are still a few 4B's around the state, many Montanans long for the day that they had a 4B's in their town. The Montana chain started back in 1947 and was owned by the same family until 2007 when it was sold. While known for great down-home cooking, one of their biggest claims to fame is their famous Tomotao Soup.
