Montanans, How Much Is The Junk In Your Closets And Garage Worth?

I spent last week going through my childhood home and all of my parent's stuff after my father's passing as we prepared to have an auction. Let me tell you, there is some emotion involved when you're looking through 50-plus years of things and memories. (Here's a tip for all of you folks that have kids and think that one day those kids will want all of your stuff, they won't.)

Trust me on this one.

I came across things I hadn't seen in 30 years or more, and things I'd never seen before. It was a walk down memory lane as far as technology goes.  I came across old landline phones, massive calculators, old computers and cell phones, VCRs, records, CDs, old video games, and the list goes on and on. So is all that old stuff actually worth any money?

Well, that kind of depends.

Some of those retro electronics can bring in a few bucks, but you have to put in the work. Your best bet for most of that stuff is either eBay or something like Facebook Market Place. However, if you have the time and the patience, it could certainly be worth your time.

So, how much is a decent VCR/DVD combo going for? I ask because I found a couple in my parent's garage. According to eBay, you can plan on making up to 350 bucks for one.

So what about old cell phones?  I came across a few of those and you can actually sell the old phones and make some money.  Of course, the newer the phone, the more it's worth, however, if you do have some older phones, it might be kind of fun to see what you can get for them.  Sellcell.com is a website that buys old phones, and certainly might be worth your time to see what your old phone is worth.

How about old video games and game consoles? I came across an original Nintendo console and an original Xbox console. Both were sold at the auction for next to nothing. Who knows, maybe you're sitting on a pile of money when it comes to these types of electronics.

Of course, there are pawn and antique shops as well and who knows, maybe some so those things that are taking up space might end up being worth something. Maybe there is an old record that's worth a couple of hundred dollars or some old cooking utensils that folks are collecting. It's certainly worth looking into and could turn into something lucrative for you. Plus, you will be doing your kids a favor.
