When I think of Montana, I think of a few different things. I think of mountains, rivers, beauty, ranches, cowboys, etc.

I also think of hard-working folks who wake up early to face the day and get all the things done that need to be completed. Now granted, Montana has a couple of towns where folks don't roll out of bed until 9, go buy an overpriced coffee, and then roll into work around 11. (We're talking about you, Bozeman and Missoula)

However, for the most part, Montana is a hard-working state, right?

Well, maybe not so much according to new data. What is interesting is that several of our neighbors rank among the hardest-working states in the nation, so where does Montana rank on the list? Top 5? Top 10? Top 20?

Where does Montana rank when it comes to hard work?

Our friends over at WalletHub studied all 50 states to determine which states were the hardest working, and as mentioned, our neighbors scored pretty high. Two of our neighbors made the Top 3, and another made the Top 10.

Both North and South Dakota ranked high, with South Dakota coming in as the 3rd hardest working state and North Dakota being crowned as the hardest working state in America. Oh, and as far as the other state that made the Top 10, that would be our neighbors down in Wyoming.

So, what about Montana? Where do we rank?

According to the data, Big Sky Country isn't the hardest-working state, but we're also not the laziest. Even though we don't make the Top 10 or even the Top 15, we do have a respectable ranking.

Some other facts you might be interested in: Montanans, on average, work almost 2000 hours per year and leave one-third of their vacation time unused each year. Why are we not taking our time off? Well, for many, they fear that it will make them appear less dedicated or give their employer a reason to replace them.
