It's almost that time, tourist season in Montana.

Soon, hundreds of thousands of folks will be flying and driving to and across Big Sky Country. While a majority of those folks will be heading to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, there is much in Montana to see and take in.

For those who are coming to visit, you'll find it a mixed reaction. Some Montanans are very welcoming, while others can be a little put offish.

However, don't let a few bad apples spoil your Big Sky Experience. Montana is a big state and chances are, you won't be able to take it all in, however, there are some highlights you'll want to add to your list. So, if you're planning on coming to Montana, here's list of places you'll certainly want to check out.

We mentioned both Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks and they certainly should be on your list, but so should the following locations:

Bozeman - Bozeman is the "cool kid" of Montana cities. While you're in town you will certainly want to check out the Museum of the Rockies, plus, the town has some amazing places to eat and drink. Not to mention, there are tons of outdoor activities to be a part of in the Gallatin Valley, and while you're here, check out Big Sky as well.

Butte - Butte is one of the most historical towns in America and if you're coming to Montana, plan a few hours in Uptown Butte to take it all in. Not only is it the most Irish city in America, there's also a ton of information to soak in and maybe have a bite at the oldest Chinese Restaurant in the country.

Paradise Valley - The setting for the fictional show Yellowstone, Paradise Valley is stunning. It's certainly worthy of a drive through the area, and maybe a stop by Follow Yer Nose Barbecue for some of the best ribs you'll ever have.

Flathead Lake - The biggest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi is a wonderful place to spend a day or two during the summer of Montana. Plus, there are lots of cool little towns around the lake that have lots of things to check out. Oh, and the Flathead Cherries, next level.

Missoula - Montana's 2nd biggest city is home to the University of Montana. Missoula has a groovy vibe with tons of cool stores and options for "retail therapy". The downtown area is happening, and much like Bozeman there are lots of places to eat and drink.

Bitterroot Valley - Filled with charming towns like Darby, Hamilton, and others, the Bitterroot Valley is one of the most spectacular parts of Montana and is certainly worth visiting. From breathtaking mountains to stunning alpine lakes, do yourself a favor and check it out yourself.

Of course, there are several other areas to see. Make sure you take in a rodeo while you're here, visit a genuine Montana Steak House, take lots of pictures, and spend lots of money.

There is something special about the small town cafe. From homemade pies to the waitress knowing your name and the way you like your eggs. These are the places that are the soul of a community, and even though many small towns in Montana have a cafe, it doesn't mean that there aren't small-town cafes in some of the bigger towns in the state.
