Summer will be here before you know it, and with that, there will be lots of tourists coming to Montana.

It's not a secret that feelings are mixed when it comes to those who visit the Treasure State, however, many of the towns and businesses here in Montana depend on those dollars to survive, so, it's not a bad thing. In fact, tourism in Montana is a 5 billion dollar a year industry.

Of course, many locals have suggestions on dealing with the tourists and some of the issues they bring to the state. One of the ideas I heard actually made me think for a minute. I'm not sure how you would do it, but it's interesting.

Montana toll roads

What about toll roads in Montana?

There are several states that depend on dollars from toll roads and while I don't hate the idea, I would need some exceptions before I would jump onboard and say "I'm in!" First, do Montanans have to pay? If so, I'm out. If there was some way that you could only get the out-of-staters to pay, I would be all about that.

Think about it, the state could bring in millions per year to help with infrastructure throughout the state. Plus, that money would be spread across, which means some of the areas that don't see a lot of traffic or tourism would still benefit from the money.

What are your thoughts? Are toll roads a good thing for Montana? Are they something that could help in the long term maintenance of roads in the state?
