On Friday morning, Montana State University President, Waded Cruzado sent out a letter to the MSU community.

In the letter, Cruzado announced changes to the upcoming Fall Commencement Ceremony at Montana State.

Commencement is the most important ceremony of any university. It acknowledges and affirms our student's efforts as well as the work of the faculty, staff, friends and family who have supported them over the years.

Due to the new health restrictions implemented by the Gallatin City-County Board of Health that limits the size of indoor and outdoor gatherings to 25 people, Montana State University's fall commencement will be held virtually.

I understand this news is disappointing and will disrupt the plans many of our students and their families had made around this important occasion. I feel nothing less than heartbreak that we cannot celebrate this important life milestone for our students.

said Montana State University President, Waded Cruzado.

Montana State is working to create a university-wide virtual ceremony for all graduates that will air at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Every graduate's name will be read aloud and appear on-screen. Everyone is invited to watch the ceremony.

Every graduate will be mailed their degree cover and a Commencement program as keepsakes and, as is customary, their diplomas will arrive in the mail in the coming weeks.

The new county restrictions do not apply to everyday campus activities such as instruction or research as, to date, county health officials have not detected virus transmission in classrooms or labs at Montana State. Face masks and social distancing are still required on campus.
