While the eastern part of Big Sky Country doesn't get near the love as the western half, there is much to see and do across the nation's 4th biggest state. One of the most popular pastimes is taking in all the beauty in a vehicle.

As long as automobiles have been around, people have taken road trips. I mean, come on, who doesn't love some quality time in a car, truck, or SUV traveling from town to town eating your favorite snacks, and listening to your favorite radio station?

What are the best places to road trip in Montana?

This could be a long list, but if we are talking about breathtaking scenery, two destinations come to mind, and they're both seasonal. The first one is Going-To-The-Sun Road. This famous road is located inside Glacier National Park and might be better viewed from the passenger seat.

The road, which is just shy of 50 miles long offers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the world. However, because of its limited availability due to weather and construction, it is often crowded. My suggestion, take one of the tours that are offered so you can sit back, relax, and take lots of pictures.

Next up, is the Beartooth Highway.

While the Beartooth isn't exclusive to just Montana, I can't think of a more beautiful stretch of highway. The Beartooth is almost 70 miles in length and because of the heavy snowfall in the area, is only open for a few months each year.

The highway connects Red Lodge to Yellowstone's northeast entrance and is the perfect day trip for those looking to enjoy some of the most spectacular views in the country. Plus, Red Lodge is a wonderful town full of places to check out while you're there.
