Montana’s Roads Sparks Debate Among Locals And Newcomers
Summer in Montana means two things. Lots of tourists and lots of road construction.
While it seems like the two wouldn't go together (they don't), it has just become accepted from the middle of May through the beginning of September here in Big Sky Country.
Montana is a big state, and according to a quick Google search, we have over 73 thousand miles of road to maintain. Of course, winter is a real thing here, so that leaves less than half the year to do all of those road projects.
Now, one of the things I hear often from people who move here is "they don't do a very good job of taking care of the roads". Normally, that is said after the 4th or 5th snow, and the ice is a few inches thick on all of the side roads. Pro Tip: Be careful who you say that in front of, because you're very likely to hear "Then go back where you came from!".

However, what if there is some truth to what the transplants are saying? Is Montana lacking when it comes to road maintenance?
According to the social site JustUSAHistory, which decided to produce a Top 10 list for the states with the best quality roads and while Montana didn't make the list, several of our neighbors did.
Making the Top 10 list for states with the best quality roads are Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. So, all of the states that surround Montana.

Does the state of Montana need to do a better job with its roads? What do you think? Yes or no? Let us know by sending us a message on our app.
