Leading The Pack: Montana Ranks High For Dog-Friendly States
I don't know about you, but I prefer dogs over people.
My wife and I have two dogs Eugene and Fletcher, and like many Montana dog parents, it seems our lives revolve around the dogs and not the other way around. We make them special food and give them treats, toys, and fancy dog beds (which is kind of pointless because they end up sleeping with us in our bed). There's no doubt who is in charge at our house and it's not me, nor my wife.
I take comfort in knowing that we're not the only ones here in The Treasure State that spoil their pooches. It's more common than you might think.
Dogs are quite popular here in Montana. Whether used for work, hunting, or just a personal pet, Montanans are dog crazy and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.
Where does Montana rank when it comes to the love of dogs?
According to Paw Safe, when it comes to the states where dogs are a big deal, Montana leads the pack. When you look at the numbers, it is rather impressive.
Montana ranks first in dogs per 1000 people with the number being 1090 dogs per 1000 thousand people. Another interesting statistic is the dog ownership percentage. Over half of Montanans have at least one dog, which is good enough to rank us in 3rd place.
Which breed of dog is the most popular in Montana?
It shouldn't come as a big surprise that the most popular dog breed in Montana is the much beloved Labrador Retriever. If you've ever spent any time at one of Montana's many dog parks, you know this is true.
Other popular dog breeds here in Montana include the Golden Retriever and German Shepard.
Not only do Montanans love dogs, but it's also one of the most dog-friendly states when it comes to businesses that allow dogs. There are even dog-friendly restaurants across the state, which in my opinion, might be pushing it just a little.
