On Tuesday afternoon, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Deputies and Search and Rescue responded to a man who fell on South Cottonwood trail in the Custer Gallatin National Forest.

The man's wife reported the fall just after 1 p.m. and said her husband had slipped on the icy trail. He was unable to get back on his feet due to significant pain from injuring his quadriceps.

Search and Rescue were able to locate the man and used a one wheel litter to transport him to the South Cottonwood trailhead. Paramedics then transported him to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital according to a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

While responding to this incident a separate call came in, at 1:23 p.m., for a skier fatality in the Bridger Mountains near Sacajawea Peak. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue responded to this call as well.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office is responsible for general law enforcement in the county and oversees Search and Rescue, criminal investigations, general patrol, civil process, Office of the Coroner, detention, animal control, concealed weapons permits, prisoner transports, and court security.

Just last week Gallatin County finalized the purchase of Zero-in Shooting Center for the Sheriff's Department. The department has been looking for a new facility for some time as they have outgrown their current home, the Law and Justice Center. Four of the seven Gallatin County Sheriff's Office divisions are planned to relocate to the new location near Four Corners.
