The following is based on information released by Yellowstone National Park:

Three men who violated the Lacey Act in Yellowstone National Park have been sentenced.

All three men are from Livingston and were charged with illegally hunting a mountain lion in the northern section of YNP in December of 2018.

Austin Peterson, Trey Juhnke and Corbin Simmons, were found guilty of crossing the park’s boundary to hunt mountain lions. Each of the men admitted to shooting the mountain lion. In addition to this, Simmons falsely claimed that the animal was harvested north of the park boundary in Montana.

On May 3, 2019, Peterson, age 20, was ordered to pay approximately $1,700 in fees, and must serve three years of unsupervised probation. Peterson is banned from hunting, fishing or trapping. Juhnke, age 20, and Simmons, age 19, received similar sentences at hearings in April 2019. All three pleaded guilty to the charges at prior court hearings.

Officials encourage anyone who witnesses a crime or has information about suspicious activity/wildlife takings in YNP, to call the 24-hour tip line at 307-344-2132. Callers can remain anonymous
