Montana has entered a state of crisis. I am scared for our state, our communities, our family, and for our children. The fight against drugs continues to grow throughout the United States, and Montana is continuously seeing an increase in drug-related overdoses as we enter 2023.

In just a ten-day period, Montana has had 28 reported overdoses, and those are just the reported ones.

These overdoses took place between January 11th and January 21st. If we were to take this scary 10-day overdose average, we would have 1,095 REPORTED overdoses a year. This doesn't include the non-reported overdoses.

The Montana Department of Justice has released an official "Overdose Alert" to attempt to bring awareness to the state-wide crisis we are slowly, but surely, entering.

In Cascade, Custer, Flathead, Gallatin, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, Ravalli, Silver Bow, and Yellowstone counties the spike in Fentanyl related overdoses has spiked and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

Where is all of the fentanyl coming from?

According to the Montana Department of Justice:

Fentanyl trafficked in Montana is believed to mostly originate from China. It is usually trafficked to Mexico and then smuggled through the southwestern border before eventual distribution in the state. Often it is pressed into pill form at illicit sites in northern Mexico. Fentanyl has been sent via mail and parcel services, but is most likely driven by personal vehicles into the state. -MTDOJ
