Jennifer Nettles Wows Football Fans With National Anthem Performance [Watch]
University of Tennessee took on Virginia Tech Saturday night (Sept. 10) in the second week of college football for the Battle at Bristol. Before a ball was even kicked, Jennifer Nettles started the game off right by delivering a version of the National Anthem that left everyone with chills.
The country superstar's powerful voice boomed through out the stadium, showing her patriotic pride on a very special weekend: the 15th anniversary of September 11. To make the performance even more memorable, fans in the stands were given flip cards to hold up which portrayed a picture of the waving American flag with 'USA' spelled out at the end zones.
National pride was felt through out the stands, between the giant American flag at the center of the field and fireworks exploding during "the rocket's red glare."
It may not be as good as seeing it in person, but watch the video above for an extra dose of American pride this weekend. Nettles' rendition of the historic song knocked it out of the park.
The Battle at Bristol was a record-setting game — the largest attendance at a college football game ever. Prior to the event, Kenny Chesney, Old Dominion and the Band Perry played a show at the motor speedway on Friday night (Sep. 9) as part of the Honda Ridgeline Presents Bristol’s Tailgate Party. Chesney attended East Tennessee State University.
"My days at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City are where I first learned to love what I do. I played a lot of music in the Bristol area during that time – and even made my first album there while still in college," Chesney in a press release. “I had a lot of dreams then, but never did I dream I would be playing at Bristol Motor Speedway. The idea of that was too big to dream. So to say I’m excited to be coming back to play in an area where this dream started is an understatement."
