Montana has several incredible local dishes to choose from, but this isn't one that we would have even considered.

When people think of Montana, their minds go toward scenery, cowboys, or wildlife. That makes sense because that's what Montana's reputation is to most visitors, thanks to television and books. Tourists probably think Montana's cuisine is American fare and nothing too exciting.

You might be surprised to learn that Montana has several unique foods created here or certain foods that can only grow here.

When I saw a list of Every State's Most Famous Local Dish, I had an idea of what could make the list. Then I saw Montana's pick and was dead wrong.

Before we show you Montana's Most Famous Local Dish, here are Five Unique Foods That Montana is Known For.

According to Insider, Montana's Most Famous Local Dish is the Meat Pie. Insider says that Meat Pies are known in countries like New Zealand and Australia, but  Montana's have a different name, Pasties.

Let me be the first to say that no locals call pasties meat pies. Pasites are a known British and Irish food item that miners took into the mines as a hearty lunch. Pasties usually include meat, vegetables, and sauces.

Pasites are delicious and a great snack. A couple of local companies sell pasties in grocery stores all over Montana. Are pasties the best local dish for Montana?

Insider should reevaluate their list because several other local dishes could have been considered. Huckleberry pie/ice cream, bison burgers, or Flathead Cherries should have all been on the shortlist.

We feel like Insider got lazy with this list and should have done more research about Montana.
