It's not really a surprise that the number of COVID cases are on the rise once again. School has started, germs are floating through the air like cotton on a windy day, and as we all know, more people plus germs equals some sort of sickness is likely.

I recently received an email from GHS (Gallatin High School) stating they are seeing a surge in the number of COVID cases. They didn't specify an actual number of positive cases, but they did have some stats regarding the hospital and the state.

I want to let you know that GHS is currently experiencing a surge of COVID cases, as is Bozeman Health. If you or your child has recently tested positive for COVID with a home test, please consider notifying the public health department on the website listed below, so that they can continue to track the rise in cases. - GHS

As of September 11th, 2023 there have been 1,794 cases of COVID in Gallatin County and 14,175 cases statewide, three of those cases were in Butte just last week.

As a reminder, no child should be at school who has had a fever (>100f), vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. And if they have tested positive for COVID, here is the guidance from Bozeman School District, which requires an isolation period of 5 days after the first day of symptoms.

If you're getting one of the two-dose vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna), you'll need that card to coordinate your second and final dose. But even with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and even after getting the second shot, you'll need to keep that card in a safe place.

While nationwide vaccine mandates aren't a thing at the present time, there are a variety of times you might need that card even after completing the vaccine process. Many schools (primary, secondary, and higher education) are requiring the COVID-19 vaccine similar to other vaccinations. Additionally, some entertainment venues and mass transportation are requiring either proof of a negative COVID test or the vaccine card.

So what happens if you lose it? Relax. There are ways of obtaining a replacement - and they differ slightly whether you've lost it before getting both doses or after.
