Is HDTV Really What I Need?

I am still living in the world of 32" regular tv.  No big screen, no wide screen, no hdtv.  Pretty darn good computer set up, but not a great tv set up.  I look each time we go shopping, at The Walmart, Costco, Vans, wherever tv's happen to be...I look, I dream, and think, should I really spend, or invest in this?  Or just wait.  Wait for what?  Prices to come down?  They have come down quite a bit in the past couple years.  And still, I watch...and wait....
